Jacob Johnson is the owner, designer, and craftsman of The Wood Duck. He was able to find the beauty of nature and natural materials in the woods of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan early in life, discovering a love of building and creating at age 5 by making bird houses with his dad. He’s been fine tuning his skills in the craft of woodworking ever since. 

The beauty in nature is in its serenity, tranquility, and its efficiency. Nature leaves nothing to waste. You’ll find Jacob strives to reduce waste and reuse materials wherever possible. This work reflects the soft spoken confidence of nature. 

Modeling his business on the belief that work should reflect life and life should reflect nature, you’ll find that his products truly emulate the season of life those around him are in. From tree to finished project, Jacob often mills urban trees for the lumber used in many of his creations. He’s able to choose the most unique pieces of lumber which allow for one of a kind pieces. The attention to detail and design is fully present in everything he produces, whether a custom furniture piece, residential or commercial project.
